How long should contributions typically be?
The word limits for contents are:
- Features: about 700-1000 words each (we can basically accommodate ca. 4000 words in the whole features section).
- Showcase: 100-200 words, introducing a strong set of images (enough high-res images to fill 2-4 pages).
- in practice/Dispatch: 300-500 words, some illustrative images.
What are the dimensions of a double page spread?
A double page, with bleed, measures 430 x 307 mm (420 x 297 mm + 5mm bleed all around).
The magazine page size is A4 (210 x 297 mm) with 5mm bleed on the outside (eg. a left page doesn’t need bleed on the right side/spine).

Why are the release dates of future issues planned far in advance, and not simply published whenever “it is ready”?
gingercoons: because of libraries and book stores. they tend to get a bit stroppy when there’s no set publication schedule. introducing money, subscriptions and paper into the equation puts a constraint on the F/LOSS ethos of releasing when it’s ready.
